THE PROCESS

Taking a project from concept to completion requires a number of small and meaningful decisions along the way. We will sit down with you and listen to your needs, hopes, and dreams. We don't come into our meetings with any pre-conceived notions or must-have's. Working together we want to determine your needs both now and for the future.

Whether we are designing a new structure or renovating an exsisting one, while they are very different in scope, include some or all of the following steps:

INITIAL DESIGN MEETING

  process 1

During the initial design meeting, we take the clients concepts and begin to determine the approximate square footage of the project, desired layout of the spaces and the prioritize the things that are important to include. We may meet several times during this process to consolidate the priorities not only for the immediate needs, but to be certain the project will meet long term plans as well. We welcome the client’s pictures and information they have compiled that show us what’s in their mind’s eye. Linking us to Pinterest boards and Houzz accounts are an excellent way to share information.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

process 2 After refining the design and style, preliminary plans can be drawn. If your project has been identified with LEED certification as a goal, project team meetings are held which may include sub-contractors, owner/owner’s representatives, and representatives from various city departments. Having even preliminary plans in hand, the process begins to take on a life of its own. The goals of the project become clearer and it is much easier to see the changes that need to be made to achieve the clients desired outcome.

DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN

process 3 After the client, and the necessary officials, have approved the preliminary plans, ADG, along with the client, begins to refine the details of the project and interject ADG's special character. At this point, the design features are chosen, interior and exterior elevations are evaluated, verifying that function supports form and we can begin selecting materials that will be used in the project. This is the point in development that allows for a more specific cost evaluation to be given.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

process 4 After the details are defined and the materials are selected, it’s time to create the drawings used for construction, bidding and permitting. This is an important part of the construction, because this is when ADG Texas orchestrates the collaboration with all the consultants on the team. It is crucial to be certain that the content, quality, and quantity of the construction matches the intent of the project and that everyone has same outcome in mind.

CONSTRUCTION OBSERVATION

process 5 The building phase is the longest and most important step in the process. Construction observation is a series of processes which are designed to produce a building that is uniquely suited to fit your specific needs. Some large projects include intense construction observations and may include regular meetings involving the contractor, necessary subcontractors, municipal or county authorities and the client.
