THE STELL HOUSE REMODEL
This beautiful home is nestled in the Lakeridge Country Club Community of Lubbock, Texas. The original home was well taken care of and kept updated with high end finishes. However, our client saw a different vision for the home when they purchased it.
The original home was separated by many walls, closing off the spaces from each other and even blocking off the views the the golf course lake behind the home.Together with the client we created a space that was more open concept and added much needed volume to ceilings and brought in as much natural light as possible.
The original home had a detached garage with a covered portico that we closed in and allowed for a weatherproof transition from the garage to the home. This also provided an opportunity to add a game room and enclose a backyard area the became the perfect summer spot that includes a pool and a fire pit. In order to connect the kitchen to the living and dining room the fireplace had to be moved. This proved to be a big challenge as the fire place was a load bearing feature.
We coordinated our plans with a local engineer who specified a large beam to carry span across the living room to carry the load of the second floor. This worked in our favor as it allowed a visual break between the open kitchen and living room. This also gave an opportunity to vault the kitchen that we hand not originally planned for. This volume added more natural light through the use of sky lights.
Moving the fireplace also provided ability to use a pass-through unit that can be enjoyed from the living area and the new office space behind it that has been dressed up much like a city loft.
Upon entering the home, what once confusing and confining foyer that forced any guest to wait to be guided into the home, now allows for anyone entering the home to be able to see clear through to the lake behind the house and really take in the beauty of the outside space that surrounds this house.
This already beautiful home that functioned much like a maze in it's organization of spaces and often felt like a cave with it's low ceilings is now the perfect home that is what it always should have been. It is now, light, airy and open. It connects the outside to the inside and fills each space the great views and natural sun light. This home will serve well for the next generations who will spend their lives creating memories here.
