Prior to the development of the computer, all building design was done by hand using specialized drafting tools. Because every line on a blueprint had to be drawn by hand, the design process was slow, and it was time-consuming to implement changes to a design. These days, most drafting is done digitally in a process known as computer-aided design, also called CAD drafting.
In this article, our team at ADG Design, LTD, will provide an overview of how CAD drafting works.
- Design Concept – As with traditional hand drafting, CAD drafting can’t begin until the team has a design concept to work from. When you use our drafting services, we will first meet with you to discuss your project and get enough details to create a rough plan. We can then take this concept and create a first pass at a complete design using our CAD tools.
- Iteration – Once our CAD drafting team has created the first finished design of your project, we will share it with you and take your feedback. We can then use your input to iterate on the design, experimenting with different ideas until you find a version that brings your vision to life.
- Refinement of Concept – The last phase of CAD drafting involves refining the design concept you chose and filling in all technical specifications. This phase is where the design concept becomes a blueprint the construction team can use to build the real structure. You can count on our team to make sure every detail is accurate.
